psm: Jesus.... look at this place... how do you...
bff :...stand it...?
psm: ...get any work done here?
bff: Well, I don't do very much work...
psm: God...I mean.... my God...

bff: You mean that in a good way, right?

psm: I mean... wow. What is that?
bff: That...?

psm: No,... that...
bff: Oh, that. That's a microphone, actually...
psm: It is? It WORKS??
bff: Oh yeah. For a while longer, I hope. I'm using it a lot right now, cause I have a feeling it's about to go belly up and I have a project to finish. It does have a unique appeal.
psm: What have you done to it? To get it that way....
bff: Oh. I guess it's been shock-modified.
.
psm: How's that?
bff: Shock-modified... yknow, like, dropped.
psm: A lot, it looks like.
bff: Well, it took a few tries to get it right.
psm: Mm-hmm. Ok, I see a 4 track cassette...is that really a 244? And 2 cassette machines... this seems like a very old apartment building... is your studio back in the Industrial Revolution as well?
bff: Well, the 4 track is broken. The MDA is shot, anyway. I'm just using the mixer and going back and forth between the cassette decks for overdubs in stereo pairs.
psm: That works? I mean... I guess it would...
bff: You have to watch the speed differentials. Between the two cassette decks.
psm: How do you get the pitches to ever match up?
bff: Would you like some water or something?

psm: Aaah! Your cat just bit me and ran off...
bff: I'm sorry... I should have told you not to wear shorts. He really goes after...
psm: Not wear shorts? It must be over a hundred degrees in this place! I just can't believe you can work like this.
bff: Come on, you just got here. Give it a chance. You have to think cool thoughts. Now, I'm sure that at first glance all this just stuff looks like a static pile of crap. However, I can assure you... it's actually an organically undulating morass. With a life of its own.
psm: Oh, I believe that...
bff: You're not bleeding, are you? Anyway, like I was saying... as the pile shifts and re-combines itself stuff I haven't seen for awhile makes its way back up to the top, and I can start using it again. As long as it still works, of course. That's how I keep my sound fresh.
psm: Well, don't worry. Your secret is safe with us. Definitely.
